SIMON KENNEDY / LONDON ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHER

Dungeness – Large Format

The blog of Simon Kennedy, Architectural Photographer based in London. My website is www.simonkennedy.net

Some shots from a day trip to Dungeness, Kent. I used the Cambo Wide 580, with Schneider 58mm Super-Angulon f5.6 XL, Ilford FP4 Plus – the last time I ever paid someone else to do my BW processing, I now have a dip-n-dunk system up and running, consisting of several HP combi-plan tanks.

Dungeness is a fascinating place, photographed half to death. It seemed almost impossible to avoid cliches. I looked for minimal compositions with some of Stephen Shore’s images also in mind.

It was a scorching out, completely cloudless day, emphasizing the barrenness of the landscape.

When I go back I think I will photograph only the power station… although I am not sure I could base a series here as much as I like it – too much baggage.

The last shot is of the sound mirrors at Denge – a structure used in an early form of acoustics-based radar.
