This refurbishment an extension of a 1920’s department store was completed by London-based practice, EPR Architects. The design of the Lewis Building refurbishment respects the original character of the structure, while updating the accommodation to provide superlative Grade A office spaces in the Colmore Business District. The cores were remodelled to provide far greater efficiency and a grand, double-height reception space with a new canopy forms the entrance experience, which includes a library, meeting area, lounge and exhibition space. A new 7th floor was added, creating terraces all the way around the building and all aspects of the design increase the building’s sustainability.
