Architectural Photography of Third Way Bridge, Taunton by Moxon Architects

The blog of Simon Kennedy, Architectural Photographer based in London.

Designed by Mozon Architects alongside Structural Engineers Flint & Neill, the new urban bridge across the River Tone in Taunton forms a key part of a major re-development scheme involving the landscape of surrounding areas. The design subtly reworks the traditional footbridge to include a busy road and a twin arch form is balanced with the picturesque nature of the site, listed historic landscaping and nearby buildings. The bridge carries a main road, two cycle tracks and two footways over the river. The deck and walkway accentuate the lightness and simplicity of the bridge’s silhouette. Footways are cantilevered off the structure to maximise the river aspect and open views for pedestrians while physically separating them from the busy road itself. Night time lighting provides discrete low-level illumination for pedestrian walkways, whilst the arch is lit by low voltage uplighting tracing the structural arcs and bridge outline.
